Since its launch on Chinese New Year's Eve in 2025, this year's event has attracted 7,631 students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, with a total of 5,648 ingeniously crafted works submitted. From the digital restoration of shadow puppetry and the innovative reinterpretation of blue calico dyeing through technology, to the AI-powered presentation of Shanghai-style Qipao and the virtual modeling of ancient porcelain restoration, each piece embodies the young creators' deep affection and reverence for China's exquisite traditional culture. More importantly, these works highlight the vibrant creativity born from empowering cultural heritage with technology. This event serves as a practice in integrating traditional culture education with technological advancement and keeping pace with the times. It represents a significant initiative in ideological and political education and cultural heritage preservation that spans all educational stages, connects activities both on and off campus, and involves multiple stakeholders. It also provides a crucial pathway for cultivating cultural identity, innovation capacity, and a sense of responsibility among young people.

Nearly 600 participants witnessed this grand fusion of technology and culture, including government officials from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Education Departments of Liaoning, Jiangsu, and Anhui provinces, as well as representatives from the Shanghai Arts Education Committee. The gathering also brought together university, secondary, and primary school students and outstanding teacher advisors from across the country, along with leaders from district education bureaus, youth activity centers, and relevant enterprises, and representatives of intangible cultural heritage experts and inheritors.

To thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important directives on the protection of intangible cultural heritage and to carry out the plan for the integrated development of ideological and political education across primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, In 2025, with the support of the Department from Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education and the Department from Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and under the joint guidance of the education administrative departments of Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Anhui, the Shanghai Center for Science and Art Education, in collaboration with universities and enterprises, the inaugural student thematic event "When AI Meets Intangible Cultural Heritage" was launched. The initiative aims to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of intangible cultural heritage in the digital age, thereby injecting a continuous flow of youthful wisdom into fostering cultural confidence and self-reliance and building a modern Chinese civilization.
