Donghua Fashion Design Creative Integration Week Held to Cultivate Design Talents for the New Era

2026-01-26

Recently, the "Donghua Fashion Design Creative Integration Week" was held on the Yan'an Road Campus, showcasing nearly 1,000 design works by students from the College of Fashion and Art Design across all grades through four dynamic shows and one static exhibition. The works explore various dimensions including tech-fashion, sustainable design, intangible cultural heritage regeneration, and material techniques, reflecting the forward-thinking and practical nature of Donghua's design education.

The presentation of the 2023 modular teaching achievements highlighted outcomes from four specialized directions: Fashion Technology and Functional Apparel Design, Creative Structural Fashion Design, Cultural Heritage and Innovative Apparel Design, and Fashion Trends and Style-Oriented Creative Design. Students created works from multiple perspectives—such as technological functionality, cultural narratives, structural experimentation, and stylistic trends—demonstrating the effectiveness of modular teaching in cultivating both professional depth and cross-boundary capabilities.

Under the theme "Empowering a New Discourse through Intelligence," the 2026 Undergraduate Graduation Project Preliminary Exhibition integrates elements such as smart materials, interactive technologies, and sustainable systems. It reflects the younger generation's contemplation on the relationships among technology, society, culture, and humanity, serving as both an interpretation and a response to the concept of "New Quality Design." The exhibition showcases the complete trajectory of design education at Donghua University from ‘conceptual exploration’ to ‘practical implementation’.

The 2024 Costume Design: Form and Methods Course Presentation focuses on the foundational language and methodological training of fashion design. Starting from the human body and structure, the projects progress through draping techniques, material experimentation, and form refinement, completing the transformation from two-dimensional concepts to three-dimensional garments. The presentation showcases the systematic cultivation of students' perceptual sensitivity, hands-on abilities, and expressive skills during the foundational stage of design education.

The 2023 Fashion Accessory Design Course works are currently on display at Wenqi Bookstore on Yan'an Road Campus. Guided by the theme of "Elegance," the pieces transcend traditional accessory boundaries, incorporating diverse innovative design languages. From smart brooches and modular bags to interactive jewelry, the exhibition showcases the multifaceted integration of accessories with technology, art, and commercial scenarios.

The Fashion Performance program, grounded in practice-based courses, adopts a "classroom as runway" teaching model to enhance students' capabilities in garment presentation, stage execution, and comprehensive practice. Students from all year levels participate throughout the entire process, not only presenting garments and performing on stage but also engaging as assistant directors in runway design, rhythm control, and backstage coordination. This immersive real-world runway context effectively cultivates their professional competence and collaborative skills.

The Fashion Design Creative Integration Week event showcase is not only a concentrated presentation of the teaching achievements of the College of Fashion and Art Design but also a vivid practice of Donghua's design education in the realms of integration of science and art, collaboration between industry and education, cultural heritage, and international dialogue. Moving forward, the College will continue to deepen interdisciplinary integration, promote industrial intergration, and expand global partnerships, striving to build a more open and innovative design education system. The goal is to cultivate a new generation of design talents equipped with forward-looking vision, systematic thinking, and a sense of social responsibility.
