Recently, ‘2025 Forum for Outstanding Young Scientists in Advanced Fiber Materials’ was held in our university. The meeting was co-sponsored by the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials, the college of Materials Science and Engineering and the journal ‘Advanced Fiber Materials’.
Wang Qi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Sichuan University, Peng Huisheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Fudan University, Zhu Meifang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, editor-in-chief of the journal, and director of the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials, Xing Mengqiu, academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and professor of the University of Manitoba, Tao Xiaoming, academician of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering and professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Zhao Zhen, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education, Han Xiaodong, vice president of Southern University of Science and Technology, Zhang Min, vice president of Foshan University, Wang Hongzhi, vice president of Shanghai Institute of Electrical Engineering, and Lu Weibing, Vice President of DongHua university, attended this meeting.

At the opening ceremony, Lu Weibing, on behalf of DongHua University, congratulated the meeting. He said that fiber materials are the core force of science and technology and industrial transformation, and hoped that this forum can bring the wisdom of all parties together and inject new impetus into the research and development of key technologies and sustainable development in the field of fiber materials.
In his speech, Zhao Zhen affirmed the curatorial role of Donghua University in the field of fiber materials, and said he expected the reorganized laboratory to contribute more to the self-reliance of fiber materials science and technology in China.
The conference awarded ‘the second Outstanding Contribution Award for Young Editorial Board Members of the journal Advanced Fiber Materials’ in recognition of the important role of young editorial board members in promoting academic exchanges and the development of the journal. It inspires more young scholars to devote themselves to research and innovation in the field of fiber materials.

Many famous scholars made reports, they come from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Fudan University, South University of Science and Technology, Donghua University and so on.
The forum is divided into four sub-forums: high-performance fibers and composites, bio-fibers and health materials, functional fibers and low-carbon technology, smart fibers and wearable devices. More than two hundred delegates attended the meeting and completed 8 conference reports as well as 104 sub-forum reports. Zhu Meifang made a concluding speech, expecting young scholars to plough into the field of fiber and contribute to the construction of a strong science and technology country.
