Joint efforts to build a green and sustainable future for the textile industry

This year marks the 6th year of the establishment of the World Textile University Alliance  (WTUA), which was initiated by Donghua University (DHU). The Steering Board Meeting of the WTUA was held concurrently with the 3rd International Conference on Advanced Science and Technology in Textiles at Donghua University.


During the welcome speech at the meeting, Professor Chen Ge, Vice President of DHU, pointed out that the textile and garment industry is leading the transformation towards low-carbon and environmental protection with a positive attitude. On this road, technological innovation is the key to continuously promoting the industry's low-carbon development. Universities and enterprises should enhance their cooperation to jointly tackle environmental protection challenges, share experiences and resources, and form a strong force for green development. Relying on the alliance as a platform, cooperation with governments of various countries, international organizations, and research institutions can be strengthened to jointly promote the formulation and improvement of relevant policies, and to promote the sustainable upgrading of the industry.


The Steering Board Meeting of the WTUA continued to focus on the globally concerned hot topic of "Sustainability for All," engaging in in-depth and efficient discussions.Scholars and industry representatives from universities and organizations, including Chinese Textile Engineering Society, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), World Wide Fund For Nature(WWF), Moi University (Kenya), Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Gezira (Sudan), National Textile University (Pakistan), University of Edinburgh (UK), University of Novi Sad (Serbia), and World Textile Information Network (UK), came together to exchange opinions and ideas.They explored new practices, new technologies and new models for building a green future for the textile industry and promoting the sustainable development of World Textile. They also provided new ideas and solutions for textile education and industrial development of countries along the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, and contributed wisdom and strength to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.


The World Textile University Alliance (WTUA) was initiated by Donghua University in 2018, in active response to BRI. It is a non-corporate academic organization formed by prominent universities from China, Belt and Road countries, as well as renowned institutions specializing in textile and fashion, clothing engineering, design, and technological innovation worldwide. Currently, there are 37 member universities from 19 different countries participating in WTUA.
