At the 2024 China Packaging Industry-Academia-Research Collaborative Innovation Conference held in Hangzhou, Suzhou Hai Shun Packaging Materials Co., Ltd. (referred to as Hai Shun New Materials) and Donghua University (referred to as Donghua) jointly launched the industry's first visual carbon footprint calculation platform for soft-packaging products, providing a new calculation tool for the green and low-carbon development of the soft-packaging industry. The launch ceremony was attended by Li Jun, General Manager of Hai Shun New Materials; Chen Fubing, Technical Director of Hai Shun New Materials; Li Bin, Research Fellow at the Advanced Low-Dimensional Materials Center of Donghua University; and other guests.
With the ongoing advance of the national dual carbon goals, how to reduce the carbon footprint of plastic packaging has become a focal point and challenging issue for the industry. The carbon calculation process for soft packaging involves the collection of vast data on raw materials and processing techniques, and the industry has long lacked appropriate tools. Through collaboration with Donghua University, Hai Shun New Materials has modularized the processing techniques of soft packaging, collected extensive on-site process data, developed a carbon calculation model, and presented it through visualization software. This platform significantly simplifies the carbon calculation process for soft packaging. Both parties will extend this platform to upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry, jointly promoting the development of carbon data in the soft packaging sector, ultimately driving the green and low-carbon development of the plastic packaging industry.
It is understood that Hai Shun New Materials is committed to providing premium packaging for high-quality products globally, ensuring the safety of pharmaceuticals in over 30 countries. Our school and Hai Shun New Materials established the Sustainable Soft Packaging Joint Laboratory in August 2023, aimed at creating a new model of industry-academia-research cooperation to address the critical challenges and issues in the soft packaging industry. The launch of this carbon footprint visualization platform for soft-packaging products provides new ideas and solutions for the industry's green and low-carbon development. Moving forward, both parties will continue to focus on establishing long-term cooperative relationships, sharing research resources, and jointly cultivating innovative talent, aiming to set an example of collaborative innovation between industry and academia.
