The results of the 2023 Academician Co-Option of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering have been revealed. Prof. Sun Yize from the College of Mechanical Engineering at Donghua University has been elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Prof. Qing Fengling, former Vice President of Donghua University, and Prof. Peng Huisheng, an alumnus from the College of Materials Science and Engineering, Class of 1999, at Donghua University, have been elected as Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Sun Yize,a professor and doctoral supervisor at the College of Mechanical Engineering, Donghua University, also serves as the Director of the Innovation Center for Textile Science and Technology. He has dedicated himself to the field of high-end weaving technology and equipment, leading and completing21 provincial and ministerial, and national projects. He won two second-class National S&T Progress Awards and eight Provincial and Ministerial S&T Achievement Awards as the first accomplisher. With over 80 granted patents for invention and more than 170 published academic papers, Sun Yize has established a comprehensive technological innovation system for high-end weaving equipment. His efforts have facilitated the achievement of independent and controllable high-end weaving equipment, significantly contributing to the progression of China’s textile science and technology.
Qing Fengling, former Vice President of Donghua University, has long been devoted to fundamental research in organofluorine chemistry and the development of high-performance organofluorine materials. He has pioneered a series of new reactions in organic fluorine chemistry, spearheading the advancements in this discipline. Additionally, he has developed a variety of high-performance organofluorine materials and space-resistant organic thermal control materials, which have found successful applications in China’s pivotal weapon systems and spacecraft like the “Shenzhou” series. With a publication record of 311 papers and 27 patented inventions in China, Prof. Qing Fengling authored the inaugural monograph on fluorine chemistry in China titled Organic Fluorine Chemistry. In recognition of his contributions, he was elected as a Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society in 2022. Notably, his mentorship has guided over 50 doctoral students, many of whom have been selected for the National Talent Program.
